This is a message from Northeast Metro 916 School District

 Dear 916 Community,

Mary Cathryn Ricker, MN Commissioner of Education, has requested this afternoon that superintendents in our Minnesota schools reach out to all members of our school communities. The Governor issued an executive order for the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Along with the Commissioner and the Governor, I am urging all to stay at home this evening and abide by the local curfews that your communities may have put in place to keep yourselves safe, and give first responders a chance to protect our community from further destruction.  We are urging you to please check with your local cities, towns, and counties for updated information.

Along with the Commissioner, and on behalf of the administration and the school board, a special thank you to our educator colleagues.  You continue to be a supportive presence for our students in their lives.  Your talents and your deep sense of care and connection to the needs of our students gives them additional adults in their lives they can lean on.  Thank you for your service.

Leaders are collecting resources that might be helpful to students, families, and educators.  I have included the resources which the Commissioner included in her request at the bottom of this email.
Please stay safe everyone.  We care for every one of you.

Sincerely,

Connie S. Hayes
Superintendent
Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District

Curfew Guidance: Curfew to go into effect across Minneapolis-Saint Paul tonight at 8pm

Today, Governor Walz signed an executive order that implements a temporary nighttime curfew that will provide safety for Minnesota residents from individuals who have engaged in unlawful and dangerous activity in recent days and threatened the security of lawful demonstrators and first responders. The temporary curfew is scheduled from 8pm to 6am tonight (Friday 5/29) and from 8 pm to 6 am tomorrow night (Saturday 5/30). During the curfew, no one may travel on Minneapolis and Saint Paul streets or public places, except for first responders, members of the media, people going back and forth to work, individuals seeking emergency care or fleeing danger, and people experiencing homelessness. Curfews are not limited to Minneapolis and St. Paul, mayors across the state can issue their own curfews. Check with your local area for curfew information. All people in Minneapolis and Saint Paul are urged to voluntarily comply. Peace officers will enforce the curfew and arrest those who refuse to comply.
