Century College and Northeast Metro 916 have installed a virtual reality system to help train 916 Career and Tech and Century College law enforcement students. The VirTra® Law Enforcement Simulator was designed to train police officers in responding to various scenarios such as active shooter, domestic violence, and other high-stress situations.
“The Northeast Metro 916 Perkins consortium purchased a VirTra Law Enforcement Simulator to supplement the curriculum in the law enforcement program. Law Enforcement students are immersed in real-life simulations to support their learning,” said Sarah Shanley, Northeast Metro 916’s Perkins Grant and Partnerships Coordinator.
Located on the east campus of Century College, the VirTra® system will provide realistic training to students in a safe environment where they can pause the scenario and learn from their instructor. The program prepares students to begin preparation for a career as a police officer before being hired by a law enforcement agency. The simulator is also offered to local law enforcement to help train officers or citizen academies in various scenarios.
