Welcome to the Engineering/Manufacturing program at NE Metro 916 Career and Tech Center.  My name is Peg Armstrong-Larsen and I am your instructor. If there are any questions I can answer for you, please feel free to email me. (parmstro@916schools.org)

Just a quick introduction to who I am, what I do and where I come from: I was born and raised here in Minnesota.  I was the 4th of 8 kids with parents who never went to college. All of my sibling have.  I have 3 grown children (all have attended college), 1 dog and 5 grand-dogs.  I am a graduate of Century College’s Engineering CAD Technology department and of Bemidji State’s Career and Technology Education program.  My manufacturing and CAD industry experience dates over 35 years. Most of it being at Premier Marine and Skyline Displays.  Currently, I teach here at 916 Schools as well as for Century College and Hennepin Technical College.  The bulk of my teaching is at the college level which only makes sense since you are getting college credit for your high school course.

I will be introducing you to the Century College FabLab where we will spend half of our time this year. The other half will be spent down in the E1293 Computer Lab in the Engineering CAD Technology area.  We will be learning how to run a lot of the machines in the FabLab and learn about the design process.  We will also be learning about Materials and Manufacturing Processes as they pertain to the engineering fields.  I look forward to introducing you to them as well as seeing what each of you create using this fabulous facility.

The course work we will complete this year is concurrent enrollment for 2 of courses through Century College.  What does that mean to you? Well, first of all, you are considered Century College Students along with being 916 Career and Tech students.  When you successfully finish the whole year, you will have a college transcript from Century College with 6 credits on it.  The 2 courses align with both the Engineering CAD Technology degree and the Additive and Digital Manufacturing degree.  If you are interested in the Century College Engineering degree, 3 of the 6 credits are electives in this area.  So is there special paperwork that you have to do to receive this?  Well, sort of.  What I mean is, we will be doing it during the class time and when you are done with the year, I will submit your grades to Century and it will be done.

So if about half of the time we are in the FabLab and the other half we are in the computer lab, how do you know where to go for class?  For the most part, we will be in the computer lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays and in the FabLab on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Fridays are varied in regards to what we are working on that week and will be announced during class the day before.  The first week of classes, we will be in the computer lab every day. Remember, E1293 and you are golden.

I can’t wait to meet you and get started on a great year.
