The Animal Science program has four rotating semester courses: Care and Management; Animal Health, Anatomy and Physiology; and Companion Animals. Some of the topics covered in these courses are sanitation, nutrition, grooming, health care, genetics, structure and function of the body, breed identification, and career exploration.
This is a science-based program in which students care for in-house animals, demonstrate grooming techniques, determine nutritional needs of animals, demonstrate sanitary methods needed in animal environments, identify common animal health issues, identify and describe systems within the body, and explore job possibilities. Students have the opportunity to participate in FFA, which is a student organization. The curriculum addresses the Minnesota Life Science Academic Standards.
