Our learning model

We are beginning the school year with a learning model we are calling Enhanced Distance Learning. Students will experience distance learning similar to how they did on the spring, but they will have opportunities for outdoor, socially-distant meetings with teachers and staff. Eligible students will also have the opportunity to receive mental and behavioral health services at school by appointment. Learn more.

Our safety standards

The safety and well-being of our students and staff are a top priority for us. Students and families who are eligible for in-school appointments should know that we are confident that we are following the guidance issued by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) with fidelity. We are also continuously monitoring the advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Equipment

Students and families who are eligible for in-school appointments should know that we have plenty of cleaning materials and disinfectant to start the school year. We have floor decals and wall signs to remind people about wearing a face covering, washing their hands, and practicing social distancing. Plexiglass barriers have been installed in reception areas. We are working on getting more hand sanitizer as well as nitrile (rather than vinyl) gloves and disposable gowns. We are creating training videos for staff so they know how to use this equipment properly.

Families as partners

In a recent survey of families, 79% of respondents said that they would send their students to school in the fall if in-person learning were an option.

If we engage in distance learning, families suggested we improve our offerings by:

  • Increasing personal connections between students and teachers

  • Increasing instructional time

  • Offering more behavioral and mental health support
