Sunflower Learning Center

Small child holding sunflower

A collaboration with Canvas Health
Sunflower Learning Center is an early childhood program that serves students ages 3-5 who are struggling to be successful in their current preschool or childcare setting due to their mental health symptoms and behaviors. We empower students with the skills they need to co-regulate and find success in school, at home and in their communities.

We believe that by intervening early, we can ensure students learn in their neighborhood schools among their peers for the vast majority of their school careers.

Our approach

We believe that all students can learn. Students and families experience an innovative school program where they:

  • Experience both early childhood educational instruction and mental health treatment in an integrated/shared manner.

  • Attend family therapy in the school, at a Canvas Health location, or in the home setting during the day or evening hours that encourages lasting positive change.

  • Receive assistance in navigating a sometimes confusing array of school and community-based services.

About the name

Young sunflowers turn throughout the day as the sun makes its way across the sky, always ready to drink up the brightest and warmest sunshine that it can. We believe that with the right team of nurturing adults, our young students will have the confidence and skill to turn directions, face challenges, and ultimately mature into knowledgeable young people who excel in school and life.
