Animal-Assisted Interaction

Our animal-assisted interaction (AAI) team uses highly-trained animals and professional staff to help bring out the best in students. They help with social skills instruction, crisis support, and classroom lessons.

AAI is sometimes referred to as therapy animals or service animals.

Amber and Loki

Amber and Loki

Meet my amazing teammate, Loki. He’s an 8-year-old goldendoodle (turning 9 next month!) with a big heart and an even bigger smile—thanks to his charming underbite that makes him hideously adorable. Loki earned his therapy dog certification in January of 2025 and has been loving his role ever since. He usually comes to school with me two or three days a week, and if he had it his way, he’d be here every single day. One of our favorite things to do together is relaxing in a hammock—Loki knows the routine so well that he follows me over and stares me down until I invite him up. He lounges while I read or nap, perfectly content. When he's at school, you can tell he’s excited to work because he greets students and staff with his signature smile and a happy sneeze. As for me, I’m a School Social Worker, and having Loki by my side brings joy and connection to everyone we meet.

Randy and Luna

Randy and Luna

Meet my wonderful teammate, Luna. She’s a nine-year-old golden retriever with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. Luna has been certified as a therapy dog for one year now, and in that time, she’s made a significant impact, bringing smiles and comfort wherever she goes. She absolutely loves snacks and can’t resist a good scratch behind the ears. One of her favorite parts of the day is visiting people at their desks in the morning, where she gets especially excited because she knows there might be treats waiting for her. As for me, I’m a high school woodshop teacher, and having Luna by my side during visits makes every day a little brighter for everyone she meets.
